Summary:
The Guardianship Staff Attorney supports the Guardianship Department by providing legal services to potential clients in Guardianship, Estate Planning, and Probate matters. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for legal staff caseload and complying with agency and grants measurable. Staff Attorney will assist in outreach and in legal clinics.
Position Responsibilities:
Will provide legal consultations and representation in the areas of Guardianship, Wills, Power of Attorney, and Probate.
Will assess and determine if Caritas Legal Service is able to provide representation.
Attend hearings or interviews with clients.
Maintain financial expenditures of fund to be allocated for IOLTA, grants, and other funding sources.
Maintain contact with clients on a regular basis.
Prepare necessary pleadings, discovery and legal documents.
Appear in court and represent clients for hearings, motions, or trials.
Assist with client representation with any client being serviced by the program when necessary as pertaining to area of guardianship law.
Will assist in collaborating with other organization to provide legal services.
Will work with assigned staff to organize and structure volunteers if needed.

. Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
J.D. from an accredited institution
Experience
Minimum of four years’ legal experience with at least one year of experience in Guardianship, Wills, Power of Attorney or Probate.
License and Credentials
Member of State Bar of Texas in good standing
Valid driver license
Reliable transportation
Valid vehicle insurance
Bilingual preferred
Certified Ad Litem in Guardianship cases or willing to become certified immediately
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum of two years’ experience in law setting and at least one year in probate/guardianship law;
Extensive working knowledge of state law, and guardianship procedure;
Experience with computer software and e-filing and legal software;
Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
Must have good written and verbal skills;
Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
